US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the US has been working with Russia, China and three European countries to forge a coalition banning Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

When asked if a diplomatic solution for preventing Iran from obtaining weapons of mass destruction was possible, Rice noted the Middle Eastern country's continued defiance.

"The fact is the Iranians," Rice said, "have continued to defy the international community despite the series of sanctions that have been put there."

During The American Jewish Committee Annual Dinner, Rice also discussed hopes for creating a peaceful Palestinian state.

The U.S. supports "reasonable and responsible Palestinians," Rice said, as part of an overall roadmap geared towards non-violence.
