Kingsbridge residents have been tucking into a delicious breakfast to help raise money for a leading UK cancer charity.

The town's trendy Seven Stars pub has been serving up tasty breakfasts and boosting funds for Cancer Research UK as part of its latest fund-raising initiative - Britain's Biggest Breakfast.

While the traditional sausage, egg and bacon breakfast was on offer throughout the morning, there were also healthier alternatives such as scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast and a warm croissant and jam.

The event attracted more than 50 people and raised nearly £300.

Seven Stars proprietor Sarah Blackburn said: "I really liked taking part in Britain's Biggest Breakfast.

"It's a really easy and enjoyable way to raise money for Cancer Research UK, which is such an important cause.

Sarah Blackburn, Seven Stars: "Cancer has touched the lives of close members of my direct family so I feel very strongly about supporting Cancer Research UK."

Barry Jefferies was delighted with his breakfast. He said: "It's great to see people supporting a great cause to which I am a part off, as myself and my wife are sufferers. Hopefully one day with everyone’s hard work they will find a cure."

Sam and Sue Rooker added: "This is such a fantastic cause. It was lovely breakfast and it was great to give money to such a rewarding charity."

Another satisfied customer commented: "The breakfast was delicious. I am already looking forward to next year's event."

Sarah would like to thank Phillip and Trinda Moore for their wonderful free range eggs, Somerfield for their generous "Supermarket Sweep" and her staff who worked for free.

She also thanked her customers for supporting Cancer Research UK by enjoying "a lovely breakfast".

This is now the tenth year that Britain's leading cancer charity has been holding Britain's Biggest Breakfast and the event has been growing all the time.

As well as raising vital funds for research into cancer, Britain's Biggest Breakfast is encouraging awareness of how eating a healthy breakfast, as part of a balanced diet including plenty of fruit and vegetables, can help reduce your risk of cancer.

Researchers believe that around a third of all cancers are linked to diet, obesity and alcohol. A healthy breakfast gives you a boost of nutrients and means you're less likely to snack on unhealthy foods before lunch. Incorporating fruit and veg into your breakfast will also help towards the recommended five portions a day.

Cancer Research UK said it hopes to raise more than £250,000 this year.

Taking part in Britain's Biggest Breakfast is easy and fun - it involves inviting a group of friends, family or colleagues to join you for breakfast in March and asking them for a donation to raise vital funds for cancer research.
