Totnes MP Anthony Steen has officially opened a second brand new stunning teak bench for public use in memory of the late John Peters CBE.
The bench was placed next to Alan Gilbert's memorial bench outside Peacocks in Kingsbridge's Fore Street which Mr Steen unveiled in August.
Mr Gilbert and Mr Peters were close friends to Mr Steen for more than a quarter of a century.
Mr Peters was the chairman of the South Hams Conservative Association that selected Mr Steen in 1983 as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Hams.
He stood head and shoulders above his contemporaries, six foot six in height with a booming voice which he used to good effect as a lay preacher.
Mr Peters, a former director of Gillette industries, was also on the board of the South Hams Gazette Group in the 1980s.
It was his widow, Joan's idea to put Mr Peters and Mr Gilbert next door to each other in the High Street.
Mr Steen said: "I really am thrilled to be opening a second bench, putting two close friends together.
"These benches will give shoppers a chance to take a breather before their strenuous climb up Fore Street!"
