A Kingsbridge-based tradesman says his new ultra-light and ultra-economical van has been attracting huge attention from motoring enthusiasts.
When Adrian Myatt attended the Kingsbridge Show in September, he spent much of the time talking about his nifty, new Mega Van which formed part of his tradestand display.
The compact, practical and economical vehicle, made by the French-based manufacturer Aixam, has proved to be a valuable transport and marketing tool for Mr Myatt, who owns Myson Cleaning Services.
Powered by a 500cc Kubota diesel engine, the Mega Van has a contemporary and attractive look while the advantages of being lightweight and easy to handle are a plus for small businesses.
Capable of speeds of up to 50mph, the Mega Van can also be used as either a normal van or flatbed truck, has a payload of 450 kilos and is so economical that in London it is exempt from the congestion charge.
Mr Myatt, who has been running carpet and upholstery cleaning business for six years, said: "I bought the Mega Van just before the Kingsbridge Show so I could use it on my tradestand. It drew a lot of attention as people had never seen one before which made it great for business.
"I had been looking for something like this for a while. I was hoping that the manufacturers of Smart cars would bring out a little van but there was nothing around so I was pleased to find out about the Mega Van. It's big enough to carry everything I need and ideal for driving around the country lanes."
Richard Singleton, dealer principle at the Car Shop in Yeovil where Mr Myatt bought the Mega Van, said the vans had already become popular urban vehicles due to the advantages of size and maneuverability.
He said: "We see them as a mobile advert for those businesses which cannot afford to place adverts in newspapers all the time. They turn people's heads and are very good fun."
