People living in the South Hams area may soon be able to borrow scooters to access work and training opportunities.
The popular Devon Wheels 2 Work scheme is being extended into the South Hams following successful projects in Holsworthy, Honiton and Tavistock.
It will provide 32 scooters for people aged between 16 and 65 who find it difficult to get to work because they do not have access to private or public transport.
The scheme, which is targeted mainly at rural areas, offers full training, helmet, jacket and gloves.
Moped loans last for a period of three months. Participants must pay a weekly contribution and have a plan to obtain their own transport at the end of the loan period.
The scooters are checked regularly to ensure they remain in a safe and reliable condition.
Devon Wheels 2 Work is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC).
It is partly funded by Devon County Council and Devon Renaissance.
