Oscar-nominated drama There Will Be Blood (15) is being screened at the Reel Cinema for a week from today.

The film, which was shortlisted for best picture at last month's Academy Awards, is a sprawling epic of family, faith, power and oil.

It is set on the incendiary frontier of California's turn-of-the-century petroleum boom.

The story chronicles the life and times of one Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis), who transforms himself from a down-and-out silver miner raising a son on his own into a self-made oil tycoon.

Also being screened at the Reel is Columbia Pictures' thriller Vantage Point (12A).

Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) are two Secret Service agents assigned to protect President Ashton (William Hurt) at a landmark summit on the global war on terror.

When President Ashton is shot moments after his arrival in Spain, chaos ensues and desperate lives collide.

In the crowd is Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker) and American tourist video-taping the historic event to show his kids when he returns home.

Also there is Rex (Sigourney Weaver) an American TV news producer who is reporting on the conference.

It's only as we follow each person's perspective of the same 15 minutes prior to and immediately after the shooting that the terrifying truth behind the assassination attempt is revealed.

Computer animation The Ugly Duckling And Me (U) is another film the Reel is showing this week.

Based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen, The Ugly Duckling and Me tells the story of Ratso, a wheeler dealer city rat, and Ugly, a baby duckling with a most striking appearance.

Family fantasy The Waterhorse: Legend Of The Deep (PG) also continues for another week.

For screening dates and times, call the Reel Cinema on 01548 856636 or visit www.thereelcinema.co.uk.
