A Kingsbridge butcher has scooped a prestigious prize for its tasty hotpot ready meal.

Lidstones butchers, who has been trading in Kingsbridge for over 100 years, landed the Gold Award for its takeaway hotpot.

The firm, which is based in the town's busy Fore Street, also came away from the British Pork Executive South West heats as regional winners of the ready meal category.

Managing director Chris Sroka said he was very pleased with the firm's success.

"This is an amazing achievement for Lidstones," he said.

"These awards are so prestigious and only recongise the finest local produce. We are truly honoured by this award."

Lidstones is a traditional family butcher supplying locally reared meat farmed in the old tried and tested way.

The meat is hung for succulence, tenderness and flavour. Lidstones has a loyal following for its gold award-winning sausages and its hogs pudding made from a traditional recipe.

More recently, Lidstones has produced a range of quality pies and pasties which are made from fresh ingredients and have proved very popular.

The company has also recently opened a second shop at Countrymans's Choice in Ivybridge.
