College pioneers new maths technology

2nd February 2005

Kingsbridge Community College has been chosen to help lead a national project for developing the use of technology in maths teaching.

The maths department at the Kingsbridge school is one of seven nationwide to have been chosen for the pioneering venture.

It has been awarded £14,000 funding to install computerised interactive whiteboards in its seven maths classrooms.

The new technology enables teachers to display material directly from the web, to simulate graphs and 3D models and to save anything written on the board so that it can be looked at again in later lessons.

The findings from the research will be disseminated to other schools across the country.

College principal Roger Pope said: "We are delighted to see the maths department blazing the trail in this innovative use of technology!"

It is not the first time that the community college, which Ofsted inspectors as "excellent" during a visit last year, has been singled out for its performance.

Last year it was designated a Leading Edge School by the Department for Education and Skills, winning a share a £180,000 cash injection to help others in Devon.
