School celebrating SAT success

Kingsbridge Community College is one of the best schools in Devon

Kingsbridge Community College is one of the best schools in Devon

28th February 2008

Students from Kingsbridge Community College have again come up trumps in this year's Key Stage Three tables.

The school's aggregate score for the exams in English, maths and science reached 245 out of 300 in 2008.

This places Kingsbridge Community College twelfth in the Devon authority.

Eighty-one per cent of the school's pupils achieved a grade 5 or above in English, while 83 per cent attained level 5 or above in maths and 81 per cent scored grade 5 or above in science.

Nationally, the figures stand at 74 per cent for English, 76 for maths and 73 per cent for science.

The Key Stage Three exams are taken by 14-year-old students, and are seen by the government as a good way to monitor a school's productivity.

According to Schools Minister Jim Knight, "Key Stage Three results give a good indication of how pupils will achieve at GCSE".

However, the majority of students and teachers disagree, saying they are a complete waste of time.
