The cow escaped in Chillington

The cow escaped in Chillington

4th October 2007

A police marksman has shot and killed a runaway cow causing havoc in south Devon.

The beast had escaped from a field in Chillington, near Kingsbridge, on Wednesday afternoon, and was running loose in the streets.

Police dispatched a unit of firearms officers after the animal evaded capture by a local vet and slaughterman.

The cow was finally cornered and shot by armed police in Old Plymouth Road in Kingsbridge.

The decision to shoot the animal was taken after it became highly distressed and could have presented a real danger to the public, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said.
